Student Wins Teen Pageant

St. Joseph’s Academy student Brooke Hotard, a rising junior, is the new Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen. Hotard won the title at the June 21 pageant, held in the Civic Center Theatre in Monroe.

“...when they called my name, I nearly had a heart attack.” Brooke Hotard '12

Hotard competed in the talent, evening gown, fitness, on-stage question and interview competitions. This year marks her first as a pageant participant. “I did a preliminary pageant to get me to Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen, and it worked out that I won my first year,” she said. “Some of the girls have been doing it for years, but I guess I just got lucky and am so blessed.”

Hotard said she was “shocked” to be announced as the winner. “The two girls who won the two preliminary awards, fitness and talent, were expected to win, so when they called my name, I nearly had a heart attack,” she said.

Hotard said she especially enjoyed the camaraderie with her fellow contestants. “My favorite thing about the competition was getting to spend time with girls backstage because it was non-stop laughing and jokes,” she said. “It was hilarious. My second favorite part was the interview competition because I think that’s my strong point as far as letting the judges know who I am and what I have to offer.”

Hotard will compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant, August 24-28 in Orlando, Florida.

“I am really looking forward to getting to spend time with the girls and showing them that southern hospitality that comes naturally to us,” she said. “I really hope that I do well and make everyone proud.”
